Grace
Friday, December 7th, 2007Last week my co-pastor Steve taught on the freedom Christ followers have from the law. During the message, he shared a great quote from Martin Lloyd Jones:
“The true preaching of grace always leads to the possibility of this charge of license being brought against it. If your preaching of grace has not been misunderstood in this way, then you had better examine your sermon again to make sure you are preaching grace the way it is really offered in the New Testament…There is this kind of dangerous element to the true presentation of the doctrine of salvation.”
Through reading blog responses and interacting with different Riverview people, I have realized how well Steve did exemplified this in his teaching. He preached grace so well that some young believers (and some unbelievers) took it as a “license to sin.”
Then this week, he continued by teaching about the freedom we have from sin. Talking with some folks after the service, it was so cool to see people’s lives literally being changed by these two simple truths.
I love being part of a church where this type of Christian living is not only preached but lived out.
